Steps for Breeding Betta Fish

Once you have everything you require, including a pair of fit and healthy betta fish, it's time to start the breeding process. It is ideal for hatching your fish throughout the weekend, so you can observe the breeding process and koi betta care in detail.

Let's get going!

Setup of the breeding tank

Fill the bottom of the breeding tank with water to a depth of about 5 inches. To make the water healthy for your fish, add some water de-chlorinator.

Fill the tank with the aquarium heater. To keep it beneath the water, you need to arrange it horizontally. Otherwise, use the model's directions.

The male can construct his bubble home on a little piece of bubble wrap or a portion of Styrofoam, so add that. An ideal size is a square of two to three inches.

Moving the Pair in Breeding Tank

Enter the breeding tank with the male betta fish. To claim his territory, he should always approach the female first. Before adding your fish, test the water. It should be at the same temperature and settings as his regular tank to prevent shock.

After about a day, add the female to the mating tank. Just ensure that you keep her in the mating box away from the male fish.

Introduce the breeding couple

The male Betta should've just created a sizable bubble nest in the tank after about a day. Additionally, he will be yelling at the girl. The female must now be removed from the mating box.

Watch the fish closely. The male would chase and nip her to entice the female betta fish to mate. You might have to split the two apart if he starts acting rough.

Give the pair to spawn during the daytime, isolate the female in the mating tank for the night, and try again.

Spawning

The female Betta will approach the male Betta by his bubble nest when she is prepared to spawn.

Until they can successfully mate, the pair will circle one another. The female will drop her fertilized eggs when the male envelops her. Betta eggs are externally fertilized, as opposed to guppies and other livebearers.

Although it may take several hours, ensure everything is going as planned by checking in on the fish frequently.

Eliminate the female Betta fish

The female should be returned to her tank once all the eggs have been laid.

The male will frequently turn hostile towards her because female bettas often consume their eggs.

At this time, the female may be slightly battered. You can treat her with a gentle salt bath or in a separate tank with an aquarium antibiotic.

Hatching

Until the eggs hatch and the tiny baby fish swim freely, the male tangerine koi betta fish will keep safeguarding the eggs. Usually, this takes three days.

The male fish will continue to work to keep all of the hatching young inside the nest until the baby fish can first be seen by their tails.

When all of the fries can swim independently, remove the male Betta.
